Regular price £31.50James’s ceramic work is made using his self-developed Actioncasting technique to produce both functional and decorative porcelainware. From his early career in textile design Abstract Expressionism provided inspiration for the creation of spontaneous and gestural mark-making. Translating this into ceramics allowed for a move away from the flat canvas to a three-dimensional space, where the kinetic undulations of colour and movement flow round a piece producing shapes that the viewer can interpret in their own way.
Each Bud Vase is 100% porcelain, the stained clay is the first part of the process and is applied to the mould in a performative way, the colours layering and overlapping without the interference of thought. The work is glazed inside allowing for functional use of the object, however, can be simply admired and rotated whenever the user wishes to have a new perspective on the item.
Measures 15.5cm x 3.5cm.
Handwashing recommended.
