About the artist
David Shrigley
David Shrigley (b.1968, UK) works across drawing, painting, sculpture, installation, photography, animation, and print. He is one of those unique artists, like Andy Warhol or Keith Haring, who is recognised within the art world but whose reach extends far beyond to impact our wider culture.
Posters
When asked what comes first, the line or the image, the artist says there are four stages to creating one of his iconic posters: image, text, text, image. His process involves looking through numerous books on his bookshelf or the internet to find images that are interesting, that he hasn’t painted or drawn before. He writes down what the image is, and refers back to the image to draw or paint it, adding the text at the end.
