Haegue Yang Exclusive Silk Scarf
This silk scarf has been created to celebrate Haegue Yang's Leap Year exhibition at the Hayward Gallery. It features one of her hanji collage works Fluttering Dancer Soul Sheet – Mesmerizing Mesh #133, 2022.
Haegue Yang’s ongoing Mesmerizing Mesh series (2021 – present) consists of layered pieces of hanji, a traditional handmade paper made from the inner bark of mulberry
trees. This work is a flattened emulation of a nukjeon (soul sheet), a paper figure cut-out from hanji during the Korean shamanistic ritual gut. This ritual presents a display of gratitude and commitment to the spirit world, in which a Shaman blows a spirit onto the paper in order to console the ghost of the deceased.
