Weirdo Paperback, by Sara Pascoe.
Sophie is not long back from her trip to Sydney, where she 'accidentally' bumped into Chris.
Tonight, Sophie is working in a Moon-Under-the-Water in Essex, about to wrap cutlery, when she turns to find Chris ordering two G&T's from her. Chris has not recognised Sophie.
Sophie has other things on her mind/to do list:
1) Avoiding debt collection letters - the return flights maxed out one credit card alone.
2) Not contacting her mum, her sister and her sister's new fiancé, James, who is also Sophie's ex.
3) ignoring texts from Ian, her current boyfriend - although that's not as hard as 1 & 2 as he's quite good at coming up with reasons for them not to have any physical contact.
And now Chris is back, standing in front of Sophie at the bar. It's a sign. It must be a sign.
Sophie is alert to messages from whoever is in control. She is also anxious, tired, and about to find out how far she'll go to see if she and the man now back in her life have a future. If only she can work out how to behave like a normal, laid-back person first.
