Regular price £42.00This silk scarf has been created to celebrate Haegue Yang's Leap Year exhibition at the Hayward Gallery. It features one of her hanji collage works Fluttering Dancer Soul Sheet – Mesmerizing Mesh #133, 2022.
Haegue Yang’s ongoing Mesmerizing Mesh series (2021 – present) consists of layered pieces of hanji, a traditional handmade paper made from the inner bark of mulberry
trees. This work is a flattened emulation of a nukjeon (soul sheet), a paper figure cut-out from hanji during the Korean shamanistic ritual gut. This ritual presents a display of gratitude and commitment to the spirit world, in which a Shaman blows a spirit onto the paper in order to console the ghost of the deceased.
