The Slab Vase by Miyelle Karmi.
It's distinctive overlap detail is made using the slab building technique. A sheet of clay is rolled out and each design is created from a simple cut-out circle and rectangle. Once the clay is leather hard, the rectangle is wrapped around the base circle with the overlap of the clay showing how this joins together. While the design feels clean and contemporary, we are reminded that this is a handmade item in the variation of shape with each unique piece.
The vase is hand built with a mix of two stoneware clays with a flecked texture and glazed in a satin cream.
