London/Londoff is written by children for children. It is the culmination of Imagine a Story, a nationwide creative writing project from Southbank Centre’s Creative Learning team provided for free to primary schools and teachers as part of Imagine Children’s Festival, the UK’s leading children’s festival taking over the 17-acre cultural centre from 12 - 23 February. Since October 2019, 30 participating schools have written one chapter of the story each, responding to a brief outlined by Jackson, in a giant ‘game of consequences’.
In the final story, south London duo August and Arcade slam into each other one cold morning in London and discover that everything – and mostly everyone – around them is somehow... off. Once they intercept a transmission from an evil alien overlord, it’s up to August, Arcade and sassy cat Sadie to rescue the artists and creatives of London, outsmart their flippant alien aggressor and stop London from becoming Londoff…
London/Londoff highlights the immense creativity and cleverness that children can show when they are given the opportunity and guided by talented artists and teachers. The book will be on sale as a limited run in the Southbank Centre shop and website, and at Knight's Of’s shop in Brixton, and a copy will be provided for free to each child and each participating school library. Live readings, for the children and their schools, will be performed by Jackson and Adeola at Imagine on 10, 12 and 13 February.
